Understanding Ayurvedic Doshas: A Beginner's Guide to Feeling Your Best
Nichole Falco | MAR 12, 2024

In the world of ancient health wisdom, Ayurveda stands tall as a guide to keeping your body, mind, and spirit in harmony. At the heart of Ayurveda are "doshas" – three special energies that affect how you feel physically and emotionally.
Let's break them down: What are Doshas? In Ayurveda, doshas are three primary energies that influence your physical and mental constitution: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each dosha is associated with specific qualities and governs various functions within the body.
Vata: This energy is like the breeze – light, quick, and always on the move. It helps with things like your breathing, blood flow, and staying alert.
Pitta: Think of Pitta as the fire inside you – it's all about warmth, digestion, and getting things done. It helps you digest food, think clearly, and keep your body temperature just right.
Kapha: Kapha is like a sturdy rock – it's strong, steady, and full of life. It helps with things like building strong bones, keeping your joints moving smoothly, and staying emotionally balanced.
Now, you might have more of one dosha than the others, and that's totally normal. Understanding your dominant dosha can help you to make choices that keep you feeling great. To figure out your dosha, you can look at things like your body type, personality, and how you feel physically. Once you know your dosha, you can use simple practices like mindfulness, yoga, and eating the right foods to keep everything balanced. Want to learn more? 4. Pour the dressing over the quinoa salad and toss gently to coat evenly.
5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
6. Serve the salad chilled or at room temperature.
Benefits for Each Dosha:
Vata: This salad provides grounding and nourishing ingredients like cooked quinoa, chickpeas, and olive oil, which help balance Vata's airy and light qualities.
Pitta: The cooling properties of fresh herbs like cilantro and mint, along with lemon juice, help pacify Pitta's fiery nature, while the balanced mix of vegetables supports digestion without overheating.
Kapha: The light and dry qualities of quinoa and chickpeas, combined with the stimulating flavors of cumin and lemon juice, help counterbalance Kapha's heaviness and promote digestion and energy flow.
